What is ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based approach that uses the science of learning and behavior to better understand why behaviors occur and how meaningful skills can be developed. ABA therapy is individualized to each person’s needs, strengths, and goals. It can be used to build skills such as communication, independence, emotional and behavioral regulation, daily living, flexibility, and safety, while also addressing behaviors that may interfere with everyday life. At Motive, ABA is not about changing who a person is. The focus is on developing practical skills, reducing barriers, and supporting meaningful progress that improves independence and quality of life.
Meet Bethany
Bethany is the founder of Motive Behavioral Consulting and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) in Texas. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Oregon and has experience supporting individuals from early childhood through adulthood.
Her background includes everything from focused everyday concerns and skill development to complex behavioral, developmental, psychiatric, and medical needs. She has extensive experience supporting individuals with significant challenging behavior, including aggression, self-injury, elopement, property destruction, and other behaviors that may impact daily life, safety, or access to care.
Bethany has worked across hospital and medical settings, outpatient ABA programs, schools, homes, community settings, and telehealth. She also has extensive experience collaborating with physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, educators, and other professionals to help ensure behavioral support works alongside the other services an individual may receive.
Her approach is practical, collaborative, and individualized. Rather than focusing on behavior in isolation, Bethany works to understand the whole person, identify goals that are meaningful to them and their family, and develop strategies that can realistically fit into everyday life.
